Adult & Parent Volunteer Opportunities

Young Marine units are community-based programs led by dedicated adult volunteers. Many of these volunteers are former, retired, active duty, or reserve Marines who believe passionately that the core values they learned as Marines had a positive affect on them. It is through these caring adults that Young Marines learn the inner values of Honor, Courage and Commitment. Adult volunteers are individually screened by the National Headquarters based on background information and recommendations provided with each person’s registration.

Signing Up for the Lewis and Clark Unit

The Young Marines strengthens the lives of America's youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. Young Marines learn new skills, and earn rank. They earn ribbons in areas such as CPR, swimming, map reading, drug prevention training, conservation, first aid, academic achievement, community service and physical fitness.
Young Marines make a pledge to be drug-free and work hard to encourage family, friends, and schoolmates to share in this commitment.
The annual fee to be a member of the Lewis & Clark unit is $75. This is payable each year in September and covers dues for October 1 through September 30 of the following year.
The recruit registration fee is $50 and is due upon turning in the completed recruit application.

Young Marine Training - Boot Camp

All applicants attend at least a 26-hour boot camp, usually spread out over several weekly meetings. This training instills a sense of pride and personal accomplishment, forming the basis of confidence and self-esteem. Graduation day is always a proud and memorable day for the Young Marine and his/her family, parents and friends. It is the day that you earn the distinguished title of Young Marine and you wear, with pride, the uniform of a Young Marine. From this day forward, you are a member of an esteemed group of young Americans who are making a difference in their lives, the lives of others, their community and their country.
Boot Camp subjects include:
- Customs and courtesies
- History & traditions of the United States
- Physical fitness education
- Discipline & citizenship
- Uniform regulations & personal hygiene
- Close order drill
- Self discipline and self respect

Do YOU have what it takes to be a Young Marine?
Our next boot camp begins in 2011. Lewis & Clark holds just one boot camp annually!! Take this into consideration when deciding to enroll your child/ren or not into the program for this recruit class.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Potential Young Marines and at least one parent or guardian MUST attend an orientation in order to join
The Lewis and Clark Young Marines.
For more information on becoming a member of the Lewis and Clark Young Marines email our unit recruiter, Lisa Estes, at recruiter{at}lcym.org

Can't Wait to Become a Young Marine? Read below to get started NOW!!
The Lewis and Clark Young Marines have a Poolie program for anyone interested in becoming a Young Marine who has:
1. Attended an Orientation
2. Submitted all necessary paperwork to the unit Adjutant
3. Has paid the required registration fees to become a Young Marine and the additional $25 for the poolie program.
What is the Poolie Program??
The Poolie program bridges the gap between Orientation and the wait for the upcoming boot camp.
The Poolie program is NOT a boot camp; it is an INTRODUCTION to the Young Marine program, the expectancies of being a Young Marine, and the Young Marine way of life.
Recruits who have met the above 3 criteria may begin attending on our Poolie drill dates and work with a Poolie Drill Instructor on various activities of the Young Marines and better prepare them for their first day of Boot Camp when they will meet their Senior Drill Instructor for the first time.
While we feel those who go through the Poolie program are better prepared, the Poolie program is NOT required; it is simply a tool for those anxious to become Young Marines to get started right away.
