What Is the PFT You Might Ask? PFT (Physical Fitness Test) - run Quarter 1 and Quarter 3
1 - sit-ups (curl-ups)
2 - mile run (half-mile for ages 8,9)
3 - push-ups OR pull-ups OR flex-arm hang
4 - V-sit and Reach
5 - shuttle run
Height and weight is also measured (National requirement) to track the BMI of that YM.
Points values are given to each event based on age and the amount of repetitions the YMs did on that particular event.
A First Class PFT is 400-500 points.
A Second Class PFT is 300-399 points.
A Third Class PFT is 200-299 points.
A passing PFT score for a PVT, PFC, or LCPL is 200 points. A passing PFT score for a CPL, SGT, SSGT, GYSGT, MSGT, or MGYSGT is 250 points.
Requirements
It is a requirement of National that each YM in our unit has a current PFT score for both Quarter 1 and Quarter 3 in order to be eligible for S.P.A.C.E.S.
It is a requirement of our unit that each YM has to have a score logged both Quarter 1 and Quarter 3 or the YM does not participate in Operation Belleau Wood (annually in July), the unit summer encampment (Operation Island Discovery in 2010 and Operation National Heritage in 2011) or Operation Running Water (the annual river rafting trip).

When you step onto the bathroom scale, the number you see doesn't necessarily tell you how healthy you are. Body Mass Index, or BMI, shows at a glance whether extra pounds translate into health risks.
BMI expresses the relationship between weight and height. The higher the number, the greater the risk of developing certain health problems - such as coronary artery disease or adult-onset diabetes.
