October 8, 2017 by admin

YM GySgt Devin Lewis (2010)

Lewis & Clark Young Marines is pleased to announce that Mr. Devin M. Lewis has been named our new Unit Commander effective Sept 24, 2017. Mr. Lewis replaces Mrs. Twilla Miller. We would like to thank Mrs. Miller for her years of dedicated service to the Lewis & Clark Young Marines and wish her well.

Mr. Lewis comes to us with a vast amount of Young Marine experience. He graduated from Young Marine recruit class in 2003 when he was 11. He attended Young Marine National Junior, Senior & Advanced Leadership schools and was the Unit 1st Sergeant from 2009-2010. Mr. Lewis earned the title of Lewis & Clark Young Marine of the Year in 2009 and retired from the Young Marines as a Gunnery Sergeant in 2010.

US Marines Devin Lewis and Nicholas Raetz, while deployed in Afghanistan. Both are Former Young Marines.

After retiring from the Young Marines and graduating from high school, on November 15, 2010 Mr. Lewis became the 3rd generation of United States Marines in his family, proudly following in the footstep of his father and grandfather. Mr. Lewis deployed to Afghanistan to fight the war on terrorism. Returning the the States he continued to faithfully serve our country until he was Honorably Discharged in January 2015 with the rank of Corporal.

Mr. Lewis works and lives in Portland with his wife Avianna.

When asked how the Young Marines made him the person he is today, he responded “The Young Marines changed my life because it gave me more opportunities than I could have dreamed. It taught me so many things about being a leader and having courage. It gave me life long friends that I’m still in contact with today. I love this program because it does so much for our youth who are facing a daily struggle in today’s society. The Young Marines help the community in so many ways, I can’t find a better program to dedicate my time too.”
