Academic Achievement Ribbon requirements
Lowest Issuing Authority: Unit Commander
Eligibility Requirements: Awarded to any Young Marine who maintains a 3.0 grade point average or equivalent for a period of one academic year and/or awarded to any Young Marine who passes the Aviation Mach III Challenge or a nationally approved Aviation Ground School.
Criteria:
1. Any Young Marine maintaining a 3.5 grade point average or equivalent for a period of one academic year shall be awarded the Academic Achievement Ribbon with gold lamp device. A copy of the Young Marine’s report card for each reporting period will be kept in YMRB.
2. Many schools do not mark by the 4.0 grade point system below; the unit commander must determine the equivalent grading system.
- 4.0=A
- 3.0=B
- 2.0=C
- 1.0=D
Unit Commanders may use their discretion for plus and minus marks based on the schools with in their area.
Authorized Devices:
- Gold Lamp Device is authorized for wear if grade point average is 3.5 or higher. The Gold Lamp Device is a perishable device. If the Young Marine does not maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher, the following school year, they must remove the device.
- Gold Airplane Device is authorized for wear for Young Marines who attend and pass the Aviation Mach III Challenge or nationally approved Aviation Ground School. If the Young Marine has not previously earned this ribbon then the ribbon is awarded with the device.
