The Lewis & Clark Young Marines and Registered Adult staff loaded onto the buses and descended on the 78th Street Heritage Farm with one mission in mind, to spend their drill volunteering to harvesting, sorting and bagging carrots for the Clark County Food Bank.
The Heritage Farm consists of 79 acres adjacent to residential areas, along the south side of Northeast 78th Street just west of Northeast 25th Avenue in Vancouver, WA. The site has a long history of farming and agricultural research.
In 2010, Clark County adopted a master plan calling for the farm to be an accessible, agricultural, educational, recreational, community-based asset that will reflect the area’s history and provide a healthy and sustainable environment.
The Clark County Food Bank currently farms 8 acres and has been farming at 78th Street Heritage Farm since 2009, growing miles of carrots and maintaining a vegetable garden with the help of volunteers. Activities range from planting to weeding and harvesting, depending on the season.
The Lewis & Clark Young Marines had a lot of fun today harvesting, sorting and bagging carrots for those in need.
