Lewis & Clark Young Marines are honored to have supported the annual “Iwo Jima Flag Raising” ceremony hosted by the Canby-Aurora VFW 6057 Post/Auxiliary. This ceremony commemorates the original raising of the flag on February 23, 1945.

“Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima” is an iconic photograph taken by Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945, which depicts six United States Marines raising a U.S. flag atop Mount Suribachi, during the Battle of Iwo Jima, in World War II.
Our Young Marines donned traditional WWII USMC uniforms, very similar to the ones worn by the 6 original Marines who first raised the US flag at Iwo Jima. These uniforms were graciously provided by Mr. George Pobi.

The ceremony was held at the Canby Adult Center and all Veterans groups were invited to bring their colors and be a part of the ceremony.
