On March 17-19, Northwest Regiment Commander, Ms. Nona Mallicoat and Northwest Regiment’s 2018 Young Marine of the Year, YM/MGySgt Emma Langley (Lewis & Clark), hosted the first ever Northwest Regiment Symposium. This invite-only event was held at Lewis & Clark’s drill site in Vancouver, WA and was limited to the 2 senior Young Marines, with a year or more left in the unit, from each of the 15 Young Marines units in the Northwest Regiment. Young Marines traveled to this 2.5-day event, some from as far away as Billings, MT.
The purpose of the symposium was to gather ideas to move the regiment forward in the coming years as a strengthened community of Young Marine leaders. They came together to discuss Unit, Battalion, and Regiment challenges and opportunities. There was also open discussion time built in to work on challenges and team building events together. This event concluded on Sunday with presentations to the Regimental Commander and Battalion Commanders or their representatives. The final presentations were also live-streamed in the Northwest Regiment Facebook group.
