Thank you for your interest in the Lewis & Clark Young Marines program. To become a Young Marine, all members must complete recruit training where they will learn what it means to be a Young Marine and uphold the core values of leadership, discipline, and teamwork.
The Young Marine Experience
Our unit acknowledges the importance of performing community service. Young Marines not only learn the value of giving back to their community, they develop a sense of pride and respect in their communities. The Lewis & Clark Young Marines Unit serves the Vancouver and Portland areas. To view the different types of community service the unit participates in and what this means for a Young Marine, visit the Lewis & Clark Community Service page.

Recruitment
We are preparing for our 2025 Recruit Class and Orientation sign up is OPEN!!
We are also offering a Poolee Class – this is a class that will give your child(ren) a “taste” of what being a Young Marine recruit is like. Interested? Please see information about the Poolee program further down.
Please fill out the google form by clicking on this link:
You will need to attend a total of 3 orientations to qualify for Recruit Class.
Our #1 Orientation will be offered two different dates:
- Thursday, November 7th starting promptly at 1930 hours (7:30pm)
- Thursday, November 14th starting promptly at 1930 hours (7:30pm)
Orientation will last approx. 1 hour and will take place at our normal drill site. There will be time for questions and answers during orientation.
All potential recruits must attend the orientation along with their parent/legal guardian.
This is the first of three orientations that you and your potential recruit must attend to apply for a spot in our 2025 Recruit class which will begin on January 4th, 2025.
Please get the next two dates on you family calendar:
- Orientation #2 – Thursday, November 21st at 1930 hours (7:30pm)
- Orientation #3 – Saturday, November 23rd at 1000 hours (10am)
Because our program has expectations of parents, children, and our staff, we have found it impossible to communicate this effectively in one orientation. Failure to attend all three orientations will disqualify your child(ren) for applying for this year’s class. We welcome you to apply again next year.
REMEMBER – you must fill out the google form, which is linked above, to let us know which Orientation #1 your family will be attending, either Thursday, November 7th or Thursday, November 14th.
Poolee Program information
It will be 4 Thursday nights from 1900-2000 hours (7-8pm) at our normal drill site and 1 Saturday from 0930-1200 hours (9:30am-noon). **This is not mandatory – however, it is a good precursor to get “ahead” and be better prepared for recruit class.**
You must attend Orientation #1 on November 7th to qualify for the Poolee class and payment of $50 for the class must be paid at Orientation. Paperwork will also need to be completed prior to the start of Poolee Class.
