Anniversary: 21 Years Ago

December 7, 2023 by Andi Schwartz

Twenty-one years ago today, Lewis & Clark Young Marines graduated its first Recruit Platoon, PLT 12702, under the watchful eye of our founding unit commander, Mr. George Pobi. Since then, we have graduated thirty-one other recruit classes! Ironically, our 32nd recruit class, PLT 31624, has their 3rd and final orientation tonight. πŸ˜‰ We continue to offer a solid program to the youth of the Vancouver Washington metro area and can’t wait to see where we will be 20 years from now. Happy anniversary to us! πŸŽ‰ πŸŽ‚

Community: Veteran’s Day Events

November 12, 2023 by Andi Schwartz

Lewis & Clark Young Marines is dedicated to showing our Veterans how thankful we are for their service; this weekend we were given several opportunities.

We kicked off Veteran’s Day weekend, sending out three color guards to honor the brave, and then we marched to our favorite cadences for 1.3-miles in the annual Veteran’s Day Parade at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.

Thank you to CCRW, La Center School District, and View Ridge Middle School for hosting our color guards.

And a huge thank you to all Veterans for your service!

Fun: Fall Festival and Truck or Treat

October 30, 2023 by Andi Schwartz

This past weekend was full of fun for Lewis & Clark Young Marines, we celebrated our annual Fall Festival and Trunk or Treat event!

The fun kicked off with our XO Mr. Vernier getting a pie to the face from the Young Marine who sold the most pies from our Willamette Valley Pie Company fundraiser! Congratulations to YM/SSGT Gallant!

We then changed over into costumes if we brought them, and played all kinds of fun games, like musical chairs, spooky darts, tic tac toe with pumpkins and so many more!

To finish off the fun we did a trunk or treat and were delighted to see so many fun and creatively decorated trunks!

A huge thank you to all of the staff volunteers, and to all of the parent volunteers that made this event happen, we could not have done it without you all! Have a safe and happy holiday this week!

Award: 2023 Unit Volunteer of the Year – Kristine Lewis

October 27, 2023 by Andi Schwartz

Kristine Lewis has been awarded with 2023’s Unit Volunteer of the Year award! She is currently the Lewis & Clark Young Marines Adjutant and has been since 2006! She has also in the past served in he roles of Paymaster (Financial Manager) and Fundraising Officer. This is her 20th year with our unit!

Kristine volunteers hours behind the scenes, answering emails, planning events, activities, completing office paperwork, and awards; as well as being present for drills and study nights. She is our plethora of knowledge and our unit expert; we are incredibly fortunate to stand beside such a great role model volunteer.

Outside of the Young Marines, Kristine also volunteers as a score keeper for Little League Baseball. For relaxation she enjoys traveling, reading, photography and spending time with her family (which includes two children who have retired from the Young Marines and also continued her legacy to volunteer with the Young Marines.)

Congratulations Kristine!!!
